Ústí nad Labem councillors will decide on the purchase of real estate worth tens of millions

Ústí nad Labem councillors will decide on the purchase of real estate worth tens of millions of crowns at their next meeting. The owner is offering the building in Velké Hradební, which now houses a contact centre for drug addicts, for CZK 20 million. The city could buy several properties in U Jeslí for CZK 70 million, with the amount divided into five instalments, said deputy mayor Věra Nechybová (nez.).

"The owner, given that the land under this property is also owned by the city, has decided to offer us this property for purchase," Nechybová said of the building in Velké Hradební. She said both the property commission and the city council were in favour of the purchase. The property is near the kindergarten and is in a quiet zone. Therefore, the city wants to use the space for a playgroup as a benefit for its employees, such as police officers.

The contact center would end up in the building, Nechybova said. If the council approves the buyout, the city would take over the building with no strings attached. "If they approach the city, we will of course try to identify some properties that would be suitable in the area. Certainly not next to school facilities," Nechybova said.

According to Nechybová, the U Jeslí real estate complex is in a locality inhabited by people at risk of social exclusion. By owning the properties, the city could influence the composition of the local population. "The properties are renovated and suitable for housing," the deputy minister pointed out.

The amount of CZK 70 million is based on an expert's report. The city would pay CZK 30 million initially upon signing the purchase agreement, then CZK 10 million over the next four years if the purchase is approved by the deputies. The city would not take over the current tenants. The town hall will then want to offer the vacant flats.
