Orange Polska plans to implement the 5G SA (stand alone) network in the near future, said member of the operator's board for Networks and Technology Piotr Jaworski. It is counting on the development of private networks for business.

“Orange Polska is working on a stand alone solution. We are planning to implement in the near future. From our point of view, this is an element that is very important to say that 5G offers all the functions that are assigned to this technology" said Jaworski.

He added that currently 5G in Poland is implemented in the NSA (non-standard stand alone) variant.

“According to my knowledge, all operators in Poland implement 5G in the so-called non-stand variant. This means that 4G and signaling are also used for communication. What the customer obtains today from 5G technology is above all a high speed of data download," added the member of the operator's board.

As he pointed out, 5G technology made three promises: the first one is a high speed download, the second is the ability to operate 1 million IoT devices at 1 km2, and the third is very low latency and very high resistance of such a network to various events.

“All this will be possible when a stand alone solution is implemented, which gives the opportunity to launch services based on the so-called slicing, i.e. separate layers of the network. This should first of all interest the business, because thanks to this solution we can talk about two basic applications: the first is private networks, and the second - the so-called. FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), i.e. Internet access via a very high-speed mobile device," Jaworski said.

One of the basic applications of 5G technology is private networks, especially for business.

"There are two solutions typical of this type of service - the first is the so-called network in the box, i.e. a private network that is completely closed on the client's side and he uses its own resources and frequencies. The second solution is based on the operator’s frequency and core networks. We believe that if the 5G stand alone version is implemented, the operator-based solution will be much more cost-effective. I think that business should be very interested in this solution, in which it does not necessarily spend money on the entire entire private 5G network, but uses the resources of the operator both radio and core network, or only from the core network itself," said Jaworski.

“We already have experience with campus networks. We have implemented several such networks, e.g. in the Miele, Nokia factory or the network in the Lodz Economic Zone. We know how it is done and I think that it will be one of the products that Orange will be able to function on the business market," concluded Jaworski.

Orange Polska is a provider of telecommunications services in Poland. Orange provides, among others, mobile, fixed, Internet access, TV and voice transmission services via the Internet (VoIP). The company has been listed on the WSE since 1998; it is part of the WIG20 index.
