More than four-fifths of companies (87%) say that more than 60% of their retail volume still comes from traditional sales, according to a report by FM Logistic. In turn, 99% of retailers want to offer same-day delivery by 2025, compared to 35% today. In the markets included in the report (Polish, French and Indian), 64% of consumers still prefer home delivery and 23% prefer street collection, with Polish consumers by far the most likely to choose parcel machines.

As the report "Omnichannel supply chain. Creating harmonious customer experiences', compiled by FM Logistic, consumers want to choose in which sales channel they will complete each stage of the shopping process.
The authors of the report identified several factors in which they see the popularity of online shopping. One is the proliferation of smartphones, with an unprecedented increase in the number of smartphone users worldwide, at one billion people, between 2019 and 2022. Constant access to the internet and apps that encourage shopping have also influenced the increased interest in online shopping. However, what experts believe has the greatest influence on the choice of e-sales channel is the variety of shopping delivery offers.

The report shows that 46% of companies surveyed believe that the most important factors influencing the adoption of an omnichannel model in the supply chain are the desire to reduce high logistics costs and prevent out-of-stocks.

"With an omnichannel supply chain, both the retailer's warehouse, responsible for online order fulfilment, and its stationary shops have access to identical information about each customer's specific order. This integrated approach enables the retailer to identify the most cost-effective and efficient order fulfilment channel and allows it to optimise the entire process," the report reads.

According to the report, omnichannel selling is the near future for the retail industry as a whole, with 56% of the companies surveyed already fully integrating omnichannel supply chains in both e-commerce and traditional retail and looking to increase the level of full integration in the future.

The report is based on a survey of 105 respondents from three sectors - consumer goods (36), retail (49) and beauty and luxury (20). Respondents came from France (36), Poland (32) and India (37).
