Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield announced last week that the popular Černý Most Shopping Centre will undergo a major expansion. The project, undertaken with a focus on sustainability, will bring 32 new shops and restaurants and 3 new cinemas.

"Our goal is to fundamentally improve our restaurant offerings, introduce more fashion stores, and introduce new flagship formats of popular brands to offer an even better shopping and dining experience. We are responding to the demand of our customers, who lack a more diverse range of restaurants in the catchment area, but also to the great interest of retailers in Centrum Černý Most. At the same time, we want to continue to develop our positive impact on communities and other stakeholders in the social, environmental and economic spheres," said Petra Holušová, Director of Centrum Černý Most.

The work, which will start this month and will be carried out with an emphasis on the smallest possible carbon footprint and the use of materials from local suppliers, will bring 9,100sqm of new retail space to the centre. The centre will be fully operational throughout the works.

Holušová adds: "In line with our Better Places corporate sustainability strategy, we are recycling and reusing dismantled components from the existing centre, such as railings and parts of the façade. We use sustainable building materials, for example, we save 340 tonnes ofCO2 by using low-carbon Type III cement. The whole building will then be built to BREEAM Excellent standard and will use water recycling, photovoltaic panels, air recovery and so on. As part of the expansion of the centre, we expect to install state-of-the-art equipment and management systems that will meet the BREEAM in Use V6 requirements for Double Outstanding certification."
Over 200 shops and restaurants.

A unique restaurant zone Dining Plaza: Instead of the classic food court, a completely new dining concept with a unique design and atmosphere will be created in the expanded centre. The new Dining Plaza will also include a children's play area for the convenience of families with children, a total of 22 different restaurants in the centre and, most importantly, a significant increase in the number of table service restaurants. Thanks to the new dishwasher, it will be possible to serve meals on porcelain dishes with classic cutlery, which minimises waste and increases the comfort of dining.

Expanded multiplex cinema: Along with the extension, the CineStar multiplex cinema on the rooftop car park will be expanded and a new offer for demanding audiences will be introduced. "Gold Class" at Černý Most will include 3 new screens, each with a capacity of just 30 seats. Audiences can use a lounge with a bar and cloakroom before entering the auditorium. Customers can also order refreshments, which will be served by the staff directly during the film screening," says Tomáš Volt, marketing director of CineStar multiplex.

The works will take place in the north-eastern part of the Centre and will be designed to have no or only the smallest possible impact on the Centre's operations and its customers. Details will be communicated to visitors via the website.

Centrum Černý Most was opened in 1997 as the first shopping centre in the Czech Republic. It underwent its first expansion in 2013.
