The Romanian government has approved the construction of a EUR 165 million arena in Timisoara, on the site of the city's Dan Păltinișanu stadium. The new stadium will have a capacity of 30,000 seats and will fall under UEFA category 4.

After approval, the next steps will be the demolition of the current Dan Păltinişanu stadium, where the future arena will be built, and the launch of tenders for the award of construction contracts.

Most of the investment will be provided by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, through the National Investment Company, but the Timiş County Council will also contribute financially.

The project is part of a longer list of stadiums to be built with funding from the National Investment Company. The biggest investment project will be in Bucharest, where the sports club Dinamo will benefit from a new stadium with a total value of EUR 170 million.
