The Czech Republic should be expanding the capacity of its nuclear power plants, even at the risk of breaking EU rules, according to Czech premier Andrej Babiš. He said new reactors should be added to both the Dukovany and Temelin power plants, a decision that would be attacked by the country's anti-nuclear neighbor Austria. "We've fallen behind with nuclear," said Babiš. "We could have built Temelin by now. We have to push this through, even if it means breaking European law. Energy security is a priority for us." The Czech News Agency said Babiš didn't go into which rules the country might be breaking in expanding its nuclear power capacity, but writes that two nuclear power projects in England and Hungary were attacked under suspicion of receiving unlawful levels of public financing. Austria is waiting to hear how Babiš plans to pay for the new reactors before launching a legal challenge.
