Work on the D6 motorway could connect Prague to Karlovy Vary by 2024, two years sooner than originally planned. That was the message of Transport Minister Karel Havlíček who said the revised schedule was made possible by the law on transport infrastructure passed last week by parliament. What's improved isn't so much the construction work itself, but rather the time it takes to complete all the preparation work. In particular, the law makes it possible to begin building on land before land appropriation procedures are completed. This will make it nearly impossible for land owners who don't want to sell their land to slow the process by fighting forced purchases in the courts. Along with speeding up construction, cars will also be able to travel along the D6 at 130 km/h, rather than the 110 km/h originally planned.
