Tesla is scaling back the ambition of the factory it's building outside Berlin in Brandenburg, according to planning documents published by Zeit Online. It writes that the EIA presented to the Brandenburg planning officials include no mention of plastic production and no battery production. The size of some planned buildings has also been reduced, such as the main production building which will only be 15 meters high, down from the originally expected 24 meters. Water requirements and waste water generation expectations have been cut, however a substation was added along with a fire station and a hazardous materials warehouse. Not that everything is heading towards an environmentally friendlier outcome. For example, Tesla is now looking to build a test track at the site and will need to cut down 193 ha of forest rather than the originally anticipated 155 ha. The changes will require a new public discussion period be held and the environmental impact of the project will have to be assessed.
