Zlin's regional assembly has refused to approve plans to build a new hospital in Zlin-Malenovice for a planned CZK 8bn. A total of 21 of the 41 assembly members present were in favor of the construction while eight were against it and 12 abstained from voting. The hospital's construction was expected to take six years to complete. Voting on the project was done on strictly party lines, which exposed a lack of unity on the question within the region's governing coalition. The region's governor Jiři Čunek claims to have been shocked by the outcome and called the result treasonous, claiming that the coalition members had agreed to vote in favor of the investment.
