A total of €2.3bn has been invested in new construction in the Netherlands so far this year. Approximately 8,800 new homes will be built with that amount in the next few years. Dutch pension funds remain one of the driving forces behind the sector, committing €1.4bn to rental home acquisitions, including more than a billion euros for new construction. That will add around 3,700 affordable houses for rent to the Dutch housing stock in the coming years. International investors have been more cautious in the Dutch housing investment market during the first half of the year, as a result of uncertainty stemming from the pandemic.
