The volume of construction work has decreased in Romania

The volume of construction works decreased by 10.8 percent, in the period January 1 - February 29, 2024, compared to the period January 1 - February 28, 2023, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

On structural elements, INS mentions that there were decreases in new construction works (-15.1 percent) and in current maintenance and repair works (-3.2 percent). Capital repair work increased by 5.2 percent. On construction objects, there were decreases in residential buildings (-41.2 percent) and engineering constructions (-1 percent). Growth occurred in non-residential buildings (+6 percent).

According to the INS, in February of this year, compared to January 2024, the volume of construction works increased by 53.7 percent, an increase highlighted in new construction works (+58.6 percent), maintenance works and current repairs (49.8 percent) and capital repairs (+34.2 percent). On construction objects, there were increases as follows: residential buildings (+87.7 percent), engineering construction works (+47.6 percent) and non-residential buildings (+45.6 percent).
