Slovenian government rolls out €3bn emergency package

The Slovenian government has pushed through a €3bn financial aid package aimed at helping both the economy and the country's residents overcome hardships caused by the crisis that caused the coronavirus crisis. One of the key measures aims to maintain employment levels by offsetting 80 percent of the basic salaries of staff who are unable to work because of widespread closures. The state will offer this aid for two months as well as covering social security costs for those who remain employed. Companies will also be able to put off paying income tax and will be able to defer loan payments for 12 months. The law will also enable the payment of of a basic income of €350 or €700 for other categories of staff, such as religious workers and farmers. Prime Minister Janez Jansa said it's is only the first part of a series of measures and there will be more.
