Škoda Auto jumps into electric car future

Škoda Auto is making the leap into the electric automobile sector with its unveiling of the Citigo E and Škoda Superb PHEV models at the World Hockey Championships in Bratislava. The Citigo E is epxected to be delivered with a 75 kW engine and a battery capable of producing a driving range of 270 km on a single charge taking as little as 40 minutes. Sales will begin in January 2020 at a price of CZK 420,000. A new study by EY suggests that Czechs are among the least interested in electric cars, with 63 percent willing to consider making such a purchase connected with some type of subsidy. "In general, Czech and Slovak drivers are interested in electric cars primarily in connection with their lower operating costs and emissions," said Petr Knap, EY's partner in CEE that leads its automobile sector activities. "It's clear that in all countries, there's a relatively strong level of knowledge and acceptance of electric cars as a relevant alterntative to combustion engines."
