Sarasota County collects nearly $1m in bed tax from Airbnb in 2017

The Sarasota County Tax Collector's Office has announced that it has received more than $978,000 in tax revenue from Airbnb. Since May 1, 2017, the company has been collecting a 5-percent Sarasota County bed tax. Airbnb has partnered with more than 370 local governments in the US to collect and remit taxes. As of now, 40 counties in Florida have agreements with the company to collect bed taxes. Overall 67,000 people stayed in Sarasota County through Airbnb in 2017.
