The Romanian government has granted €77m in state aid to five multinational companies whose investment plans are expected to boost the country’s economy by €215m and create more than 1,000 new jobs. Four of the companies are in the automotive sector, including Renault, whose Dacia plant secured €25m from the government. The funds would be used to increase production capacity at the plant to 406,000 vehicles per year. The other four companies that received state aid were Sogefi Suspensions Eastern Europe, Swoboda Sibiu, Martur Automotive Seating and Interiors and Omnia Europe, which will use the funds for a greenfield investment to produce starch, maltodextrin, gluten, fodder gluten and corn germs. In October, the Romanian government granted €105m in state aid to a number of local companies from various business sectors.
