For every day of the implementation of coronavirus prevention measures, Croatia's retail sector is losing HRK 82 million (not including food), claims Denis Cupic, the president of a newly-formed Association of Non-Food Retailers and Shopping Centers. Anti-contagion meausres have closed 95 percent of all businesses in the country. The Westgate Shoppin City shopping center, for example, is losing HRK 16m on a daily basis, meaning that the state is missing out on HRK 420,000 in VAT revenues. Cupic says that retail accounts for 120,000 jobs in Croatia, of which just 30,000 are employed by grocery stores.
