Publix Super Market has opened its first college campus store at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The 28,000 sq ft store will employ 140 people, 50 of which will be USF students. The scheme was approved by the Florida Board of Governors in January 2016 and is part of USF’s new Student Housing Village, which will include more than 2,000 beds. The grocery chain signed a 20-year ground lease with six five-year extensions.

“Over the past decade, we have worked hard to transform the University of South Florida into a vibrant living-learning environment that fully supports the needs of our students, both inside and outside the classroom,” said USF President Judy Genshaft. “We are so pleased to officially open the Publix store at USF, the first of its kind on a college campus, marking the beginning of a transformational new chapter.”
