Demonstrations broke out in Bucharest and Cluj over the Romanian government's plans to pardon a couple of people convicted of corruption and graft. President Klaus Iohannis has even stepped in to urge politicians to rethink this decision, according to local news reports. The government has been asked to consider passing a decree pardoning those in prison for less serious abuse-of-power convictions. Romania had been praised in recent years for its success in cracking down on public corruption and for prosecuting numerous politicians.
