In Pilsen, Panattoni Europe is beginning preprations to build a CZK 2bn hi-tech industrial zone on a brownfield site once occupied by Škoda Plzeň. The 28 ha site is currently empty, but thanks to its industrial past it has the necessary infrastructure and it sits next to another busy industrial zone. "The time has come to prepare this land for industry and operations with high added value, something the Czech Republic is missing," said Panattoni Europe's Czech director Pavel Sovička. "And where else should this project be but in Pilsen, which is traditionally the industrial heart of our country." He said the company would be cooperating with the Western Bohemian University in Pilsen and with CVUT's departments of informatics, robotics and cybernetics.

Panattoni Pilsen Digital Park will be targeting companies that develop cybernetic and robotic systems in production, or which develop those systems of automation. Another goal of the project is to create hi-tech jobs for graduates of Pilsen's universities. An EIA study is currently being carried out on the scheme.
