The former Neckermann headquarters in Frankfurt is to be transformed into an IT hub with the company Interxion Germany planning to build data centers on a large portion of the site. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2021. Interxion Germany operates 15 data centers in the city and operates the largest internet node in the world. The famous Neckermann headquarters building, designed by the architect Egon Eirmann, is to be converted. It's been used to accommodate refugees in the years since Neckermann collapsed in 2012. Interxion has pledged to make the data centers as climate friendly as possible, including using heat generated by the servers for heating.
