The Chinese company Huawei continues with its plans to open a regional center in Belgrade for the Western Balkans region. The innovation center, which will focus on digital transformation technology, is part of a growing bilateral cooperation between Serbia and China within its “The Belt and Road” Initiative. The Serbian Ministry of Finance revealed that Huawei and Serbia will cooperate on the development of a “Safe and Smart cities” program, with Huawei acting as a strategic partner for Serbian cities. Huawei appears to be angling for an opportunity to install the country's 5G network, something that some European nations are banning on security grounds.
