Wealthy people from around the globe are piling into the Istrian region of Croatia in order to buy real estate, especially large family homes. In 2018 alone, 432 Istrian houses were sold an increase over the results from the past two years, while apartment sales in the region are falling. House prices begin in the hundreds of thousands of euro but run into the millions. Most of the apartments sold last year were located in Pula (337) followed by Poreč (with 250), Umag (158), and Novigrad (152).
"These are very rich buyers which proves that Istria is a very desirable destination," Snježana Gospić, president of the Professional Group of Real Estate Brokers at the County Chamber and the owner of the leading real estate agency Arx Primus from Umag. "The most frequent clients with whom we cooperate and who buy come from Slovenia, Germany and Austria." She said that demand for family homes and luxury apartments has risen, but there is a lack of new supply.
