A shopping center called East Gate will open in Skopje in the fall of 2021 offering 143,000 sqm that's expected to attract up to 12 million visitors per year. The investor is the Albanian company Balfin Group. A consortium of banks led by NLB Skopje, including NLB Ljubljana, Komercijalna Banka in Skopje, Raiffeisen Bank in Tirana and Halkbank in Skopje, approved a €72m loan to build the East Gate shopping center, the largest of its kind in Northern Macedonia. Among the mall's top tenants will be the Spanish fashion giant Zara, while 40 percent of the retail space will be occupied by 20 world brands that are not yet present in the country.

So far, contracts have been signed with more than 150 sellers, and more than 80 percent of the sales area has been leased. In addition to the shopping center, the 500,000 sqm East Gate project includes a shopping center and office space next to the shopping center.
