The Serbian government has signed an agreement with German company DSD Noell for the reconstruction of a navigation lock at the Djerdap 1 hydroelectic power plant. The value of the agreement is €28.5m, with €11.4m of the bill to be covered by EU grants. The German company recently completed work on a navigation lock on the Romanian side. Two Serbian companies, Feromont and Elektromontaza, will also work on this project. A total of 400,000 vessels have passed through the lock since it was built in 1970, an average of 6,300 per year. This is expected to rise to 10,000 per year following its reconstruction.
