The City of Prague has calculated the cost of bringing trams back to Wenceslas square at CZK 260m, according to the daily Denik.cz. However, this only covers the cost of building the 600 meters of rails that would connect Vinohrady Street with the square, but not associated costs. The biggest of these could end up being the reinforcement of the metro vestibule that runs beneath the Magistral road between the National Museum and the square. It's thought that the structure will have been weakened by years of traffic passing over it. The governing coalition that runs Prague promised to bring trams back to the country's most famous square in part because the city's tram network can't expand anymore because of congestion in the center. New rail routes are needed besides the corridor between Jindřišská and Vodičková. It's still unclear whether the trams running down Wenceslas will continue as far as Jindřišská or whether they'll go along Bolzanova Street towards the Main Train Station.
