Construction has begun in Bulgaria on the extension of the Balkan Stream natural gas transmission network from the country's Turkish border to Serbia. Plans for the pipeline have it passing through 11 regions of the country in a project that's expected to take nearly two years to completed. In April 2019 Bulgartransgaz EAD awarded the contract for the realization of the project to Consortium Arcade. The total value of the investment will run to €1.1 billion before VAT.
