Brookfield Properties broke ground on Halley Rise, a $1.4bn mixed-use project in Reston, Virginia. The company is redeveloping the former 36-acre Reston Crescent office park into a 3.5 million sq ft live-work-play neighborhood. Plans call for 1,500 residential units, 1.5 million sq ft of office space, 250,000 sq ft of retail, 5 acres of open public space and new streets and infrastructure. Once completed, in 2026, 15 percent of the apartment units will be set aside for the affordable Workforce Dwelling Unit program. The project is located directly adjacent to the new DC Metro Silver Line station in Reston, which is scheduled to open next year.
