Bratislava finally approves tram extension for Petrzalka
Bratislava has finally issued a construction permit for the extension of tram lines in the Petržalka district from Bosákovej to Janíkov dvor. But although the permit could still be attacked by opponents of the new line, the city is moving forward on preparing documents for a public tender for the construction. A total of seven new stops are to be built along with numerous intersections with current roads. Planning permission for the route was issued in October 2018 and came into force in May 2019. Work on the 3,800 meter long extension should be completed in 2023 at a cost of €114m. If the city were to fail to complete the project on time, it would risk losing European Union funding. Three years ago, it was assumed that construction would begin in 2018 and would be completed by 2020, but planners had to deal with objections from residents, traffic experts and police officials.
