A few months after taking over the Real chain in Poland, the French retailer Auchan revealed this week it plans to add new shopping centers to its real estate portfolio in Poland. Francois Colombie, president of Auchan Polska’s supervisory board, says the company is targeting retail centers anchored by Real. “Under the new strategy, we’ll be acquiring some of the centers, where Real is operating. As a result, we are planning up to two new openings each year,” says Colombie, adding that the number reflects the company’s global policy.

Colombie says it’s a good time to acquire shopping centers in Poland, since a number of funds are suffering from the economic slowdown. “This provides more flexibility in negotiations, which makes it possible for us to expand our portfolio in Poland in the coming years and to add value to the sector,” says Colombie.
