There are more flats being offered for short-term rentals in central Prague than there are classic rental units. A study commissioned by Prague's Institute for Planning and Development (IPR) found that 1.4 percent of the 650,000 flats in Prague are being offered on Airbnb, a figure that jumps to 20 percent in the Old Town. Elsewhere the figures aren't as dramatic (4.9 percent in Karlin, 3.2 percent in Vinohrady, +10 percent in Malá Strana and Josefov) as the study found that 40 percent of all Airbnb offerings are in the historic center. But there's growing concern over the impact the company is having on rent levels. And with just 20 percent of all units offered on Aibnb actually occupied by their owners, the label of "flat sharing" no longer seems accurate.
