Mall Group's Hungarian e-shop investigated for tax evasion

Hospodářské Noviny reports that Czech owned Hungarian internet store Mall.hu is being investigated by the Hungarian Tax and Customs Department and by the International Investigation Department for alleged tax evasion, alleging that the company owes CZK 369m. Mall.hu along with Mall.cz belong to Czech business group Rockaway Capital owned by Jakub Havrlant, Patrik Tkáč, Daniel Křetinský and Peter Kellner´s PPF Group. Mall.cz spokesman Jan Řezáč said that the investigation involves tens of possible suspects; the Hungarian Tax and Customs Department suspects a sophisticated criminal network could be involved in the scheme. Due to the investigation Mall.hu has been able to offer only limited services since Tuesday evening. Mall.cz spokesman Jan Řezáč says the restrictions involve the Hungarian store only and tha tthe investigation has no effect on the company's Czech, Slovak, Polish or Croatian operations.

With profits of HUF 10.4bn in 2016, Mall.hu is listed as Hungary's fourth biggest Hungarian online retailer. Czech Mall Group which includes specialized online retailers CZC and Bux produced CZK 16.6bn in revenues in 2016.
