Such is the level of demand for construction in the Czech Republic that the sector couldn't survive without an influx of at least some foreign workers. But Lidové noviny writes that there's growing concern over the quality of the finished product they leave behind. Petr Chovanec, chairman of the Czech Dry Construction union says the majority of foreign workers don't have the proper qualifications to carry out specialized orders. "The vast majority of foreigners working on the basis of a business license only have qualifications for "Masonry" or for "Carrying out Constructions, their Changes and removals". He says this does not mena they are allowed to carry out a wide range of dry construction work, such as drywall and others. "The main thing is that it doesn't force them to learn or to educate themselves. They want immediate income, they don't care or think about what will happen tomorrow. Their financial demands compared to local workers often fail to match the quality of their work." Trades associations are pushing for the introduction of licensing exams for an array of construction specialties.
